Artists Rian Kerrane and Mark Guilbeau have worked together to create an installation that fills the Mezzanine Gallery at the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art with visual, kinesthetic and auditory components that overwhelm the senses – a deluge of sensory experiences.

This exhibition is the 16 th installation in The Deluge Series since 2000 - a group of works that examine several critical issues in contemporary life. This iteration of the series, Consensual Nonreproduction , brings the issue of world population to the table.

Consensual Nonreproduction refers to the conscious decision that couples make to buck the normal path toward parenthood and choose not to reproduce. Here the artists have created a ‘brave new world' where vaguely familiar forms and mechanics suggest incubation and life, but all trace of humanity, or any organic relationship, is erased. The austere environment suggests that an automated factory of machinery and mechanics have taken over the task of reproduction. Motion sensors track movements of the viewers and activate a barrage of yellow rubber gloves to inflate, calling out “Mother” with pleading hands.

In tandem with their lives as married partners and artists, the two have co-founded The Society for the Preservation of Humanity “believing society benefits when the language of art is seen, heard, and debated publicly.” They will be present for their Opening Reception, hosted by the museum on Friday, December 2, 6-9 p.m., when they will also perform a bronze casting demonstration with a live bronze pour outdoors after dark. Guilbeau and Kerrane will present a Gallery Talk on Saturday, December 10 at 3 p.m. at the FCMOCA to talk about their work.
